Verse Meaning

According to the classical exegete Imam Al-Tabari, the verse 'Kalla sawfa ta'lamun' (Nay, you are going to know) is a stern rebuke against the heedless pursuit of worldly accumulation. It signifies that the path of 'Takathur' (rivalry in worldly increase) is incorrect and its dire consequences will soon become apparent. Ibn Kathir cites Al-Hasan Al-Basri, who described it as a 'threat after a threat,' highlighting its gravity. The warning is intentionally left open-ended to invoke a sense of awe and dread; the full and terrible reality of what they have neglected will be known to them when they face death and the Hereafter, at which point their knowledge will be of no benefit.
