Verse Meaning

According to the classical scholar Imam Al-Tabari, Quran 10:52 depicts the final, definitive address to the wrongdoers on the Day of Judgment. This verse is not about the infliction of a new punishment, but the solemn declaration of its nature: eternal. As Ibn Kathir explains, this statement serves as a rebuke and a confirmation of ultimate justice. The phrase 'Taste the torment of eternity' ('ذُوقُوا عَذَابَ الْخُلْدِ') signifies an unending, unalterable state. The core message, as agreed upon by all commentators, lies in the rhetorical question, 'Are you recompensed except for what you used to earn?'
