According to Tafsir al-Sa'di, verse 12:29 captures the moment the Aziz (the master) realizes the truth of the situation. He issues two distinct commands: one to Prophet Yusuf to conceal the matter ('Yusuf, overlook this'), and another to his wife to repent ('and ask forgiveness for your sin'). This verdict, as Ibn Kathir notes, was remarkably lenient, perhaps because the Aziz saw something in his wife's infatuation that he felt he could not blame her for. Al-Tabari provides a crucial linguistic insight, explaining that the use of the masculine plural 'al-khati'in' (the sinful ones) for his wife was not a grammatical error, but a way to categorize her action within the general class of those who transgress, rather than singling out women.
