Verse Meaning

According to the classical scholar Ibn Kathir, this verse, Quran 10:57, comprehensively outlines the function of the Quran in a believer's life, describing it with four essential qualities. It is first a 'Mawa'idhah' (an admonition or warning) from your Lord, serving as a deterrent from wrongdoing. Secondly, it is a 'Shifa' (a healing or cure) for the spiritual ailments within the hearts, such as doubts, hypocrisy, and ignorance. As Imam al-Saadi elaborates, this healing addresses both the diseases of corrupt desires (shahawat) and confusing doubts (shubuhat). The synthesis of scholarly thought reveals a profound sequence: the admonition softens the heart, making it receptive to the healing, which then clears the path for the final two qualities to manifest: 'Huda' (guidance) in truth and action, and 'Rahmah' (mercy), the ultimate blessing and reward from Allah.
